The Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot is the free day lot just off Highway 6 for River Run Village. The walk to the River Run Gondola and the Summit Express Lift is short. That is why the lot fills first on winter weekends and holidays. Day parking is free. Overnight parking is paid, and only in the southwest corner. If you drive yourself, park before 10 a.m. on those peak days, or plan on an overflow shuttle lot.
Tell Avi Limo your Keystone arrival time and skip the River Run lot.
Where the Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot sits
River Run Village is the heart of Keystone. Shops, restaurants, and the gondola sit together. The lot that serves them is the River Run Gondola lot, also called the River Run parking lot. Keystone’s getting-here page lists it as free day parking. From there you reach the village and the mountain by the River Run Gondola or the Summit Express Lift.
That location is the whole reason the lot is busy. You are not parking across the resort and waiting on a shuttle. You are parking a short walk from the gondola that takes you up. Families and carpools get first crack at the closest spaces, and everyone else takes what is left until the lot is full.
Keystone has other bases, and they are not this lot. Mountain House has its own free and paid lots near the Peru Express and the ski school. Lakeside Village parking is free and sits across Highway 6 from Keystone Lodge. Use it for the lodge, spa, or ice rink, not for a gondola start. If your plan is River Run Village or a short walk with skis, aim for the River Run lot. Lodging drop-off and vehicle choice belong on the Denver to Keystone limo service ski trip guide.
Free day parking, family spots, and HOV spots
Keystone marks the River Run Gondola lot as free for day parking. In winter, two kinds of preferred front spots sit closer to the village. Both are first come, first served while they last.
- Family parking is for vehicles traveling with kids 12 and under.
- HOV, or carpool, parking is for vehicles with four or more occupants. Keystone’s parking guide puts those carpool spaces in the front center of the lot.
Neither set of spots is a reservation. Arriving with four people, or with a child in the car, does not hold a space if earlier cars already took the front section. The rest of the day lot is still free. You just walk farther with boots, skis, and a backpack.
A few rules are easy to miss if you only read a map pin. Overnight camping is not allowed. The lot is a ski-day lot first, not a place to sleep in a vehicle. And free day parking does not mean the space will still be there at midmorning. Keystone says this lot typically fills by 10 a.m. on weekends and holidays during the winter.
When the Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot fills
The 10 a.m. fill time is the number that should drive the rest of the morning. On a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, a Denver departure that looks easy on a clear map can still reach the gate after the lot has stopped taking cars. I-70 traffic, a chain-law check, and a coffee stop in Dillon or Silverthorne each take a piece of the margin you thought you had.
Build the morning backward from that 10 a.m. mark.
- Count the walk from the back rows to the gondola, then add boot-up time, if you want to be on snow by a set hour.
- Add the drive from Denver, DIA, or your lodging. Winter weekends on I-70 regularly run longer than the fair-weather estimate.
- Leave a buffer for a full lot. If River Run is closed, highway signs send day visitors to overflow shuttle lots, and that adds a wait.
Weekday non-holiday mornings are looser, but powder days behave like weekends. If the snow report is the reason you are going, assume the lot fills early. A private ride removes that race. You set a pickup time, and the chauffeur uses the live road, not a parking countdown. The same winter-driving judgment is covered for the Vail side of I-70 in the Denver to Vail winter limo transfer guide.
How the River Run Gondola and Summit Express fit the walk
Both the River Run Gondola and the Summit Express Lift load from this side of the village. The resort calls the walk from the lot short, and that is fair if you are comparing it with a shuttle lot. It is still a walk in ski boots on packed snow, carrying whatever you did not leave in the car.
That walk is the hidden cost of free parking. A party of two with light bags barely notices it. A family with a ski school start, or a group hauling four ski bags and a boot bag each, feels every extra row. Preferred family and HOV spots exist to shorten exactly that walk, and they go first.
If someone in the group cannot do the walk, do not count on the free lot to solve it. Ask the resort about accessible unloading before you go, or book a drop-off at your lodging or the village. Avi Limo plans the ride around the address you actually need. That is the point of a ski resort limo service instead of a parking space.
Overnight parking in the southwest corner
Day parking and overnight parking are different products in the same lot. Park Keystone manages the resort’s paid parking. On its River Run rules, free parking runs from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Paid overnight parking runs from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. You can start prepaying at 3 p.m. A convenience fee is added. Every vehicle pays for overnight parking, including vehicles with an ADA placard.
Overnight parking in this lot is allowed only in the southwest corner. Park Keystone shows that corner outlined on its Map N’ Park. A car left overnight in the day-parking rows is in the wrong place, even if you paid. There is also a cap: overnight stays here cannot exceed seven nights, consecutive or not, within May through October or within November through April.
Use the resort’s payment flow, not a guess at the exit. Park Keystone’s TAP ‘N SKI system takes a credit card by QR code or a solar-powered pay station. Pay after you are in a designated space. Payment does not reserve a space that was already full. Confirm the current overnight rate on Park Keystone’s parking basics page before you rely on a dollar figure from last season.
Overflow lots when River Run is full
Once the gondola lot fills, Keystone does not leave you to circle. In winter, highway signs point drivers to free overflow shuttle lots. Those include the North Shuttle Lot and the Powerline Lot. Shuttles to the base areas run about every 10 to 15 minutes. Those shuttles do not run from these lots in summer.
The trade is time and a second transfer. You park, wait for the shuttle, ride to a base, and only then start the gondola or the lift. On a cold morning with kids, that extra leg is the part people remember. Overflow is a good backup. It is a poor plan if you promised a 9 a.m. lesson.
| Arrival choice | Cost pattern | Best for | Watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|
| River Run Gondola lot, day. | Free, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. | Skiers who want the short walk to the gondola. | Often full by 10 a.m. on weekends and holidays. |
| Family or HOV front spots. | Free while available. | Kids 12 and under, or 4 or more people. | First come, first served. Winter only. |
| Southwest corner overnight. | Paid, 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. | A car that must stay overnight. | Marked corner only. Seven-night cap. All vehicles pay. |
| North Shuttle or Powerline. | Free day parking in winter. | Backup after River Run fills. | Shuttle every 10 to 15 minutes. Not a village walk. |
| Private chauffeur drop-off. | Quoted per trip. | Groups, gear, lessons, or a flight connection. | Share the lodging or village address when you book. |
Mountain House East is the other free base-area choice. It is the closest free lot to its own lifts, not to the River Run Gondola. Mountain House West is paid and sits closer to the learning area. Use those when your day starts at Mountain House. Do not treat them as a secret entrance to this gondola lot.
What to do with ski gear before you park
Free parking does not include a bellman. Everything you need for the first lap has to cross the lot on foot. Pack a small day bag you can carry in one hand. Keep boots accessible so you are not opening a hatch in the drive lane.
A few habits keep the last five minutes calm.
- Put lift passes, the lesson meeting point, and a layer in the day bag, not in a suitcase under the skis.
- Agree on a car-return time before anyone walks away. Cell service in a base village is not a plan.
- If you are leaving the car overnight, move it to the southwest corner and pay before dinner, not at 1:50 a.m.
- Check Keystone’s live lot notes the morning you drive. Weekend status changes, and a special event can close nearby lots.
Groups with four or more sets of skis often spend as long unloading as they do walking. A larger vehicle with a chauffeur is simpler than a full gondola lot. Avi Limo’s Ford Transit 350 executive van seats up to 11. That is the practical fit when the gear pile is the real passenger. Smaller parties who want an SUV can look at the Cadillac Escalade ESV. It seats up to 6. Match bags to seats before you book.
When a private ride beats the gondola lot
Driving yourself still makes sense on a quiet weekday, especially if you are staying slopeside and the car already has room for the bags. The cost shows up in time rather than in a parking fee once the lot itself becomes the risk.
A private ride is the better arrival when any of these are true.
- You land at DIA and do not want a rental car plus an I-70 dawn start.
- The group is large enough that one more bag means a roof box and a slower unload.
- Someone has a lesson, a dinner reservation, or a flight that cannot slip an hour.
- You would otherwise arrive after 10 a.m. on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.
- Nobody in the group wants to manage overnight parking rules in the dark.
Avi Limo is a family owned and operated Denver chauffeur service. Coverage includes the metro area and the I-70 ski corridor, including Keystone. Chauffeurs are licensed and insured. Mountain trips are quoted for your route, passenger count, and gear. They are not a flat parking substitute. For how a quote is built, read what to compare when you get a limo quote. Then send the trip through the contact form. The business phone is 303-455-4455.
Tell the team the pickup address, the Keystone lodging or village drop-off, and the passenger count. Also say whether skis are in bags or loose. Other resorts on the same trip have their own pages. See the Denver to Copper Mountain limo service guide and the Vail limo service page. Vehicle options live on the services page.
Do not expect a published hourly rate to settle a Keystone transfer. Ski-season demand changes the quote, and Avi Limo confirms the vehicle after seeing the real headcount and the bag list. The goal is a drop-off at the door you named, not a hunt for the last free space in the gondola lot.
A simple arrival plan for River Run
Use one of these three plans, and do not mix them the morning of the ski day.
- Early self-park. Leave Denver early enough to be in the Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot well before 10 a.m. on a peak day. Use a family or HOV spot only if you qualify and it is still open. Carry one day bag per person.
- Overflow on purpose. If you cannot make that window, skip the circle and follow the signs to the North Shuttle Lot or Powerline. Budget the 10 to 15 minute shuttle before you promise a lesson time.
- No car at the village. Book the private ride to your lodging or the village, and let the chauffeur handle I-70. Use this when the group, the gear, or a flight connection is the constraint.
Keystone’s pages are the source for lot rules, and they change. Before a holiday weekend, reread the resort’s getting here and parking guide. Also check where to park at Keystone. If the lot status and your start time do not fit, switch to a chauffeur. Do not hope a space opens.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot free?
Day parking is free. Keystone lists the River Run Gondola lot as free day parking. Park Keystone describes free parking from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Overnight parking, from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., is paid.
What time does the River Run lot fill?
On winter weekends and holidays, Keystone says the lot typically fills by 10 a.m. Weekdays are usually easier unless a storm pulls the weekend crowd forward. Arrive earlier if you need a family or HOV spot in front.
Can I leave my car overnight at the gondola lot?
Yes, if you park in the southwest corner and pay the overnight rate. The corner is marked on Park Keystone’s map. Stays cannot run past seven nights in a May-to-October or November-to-April period. Camping in the lot is not allowed.
What happens if the gondola lot is full?
In winter, signs direct you to overflow shuttle lots such as the North Shuttle Lot and the Powerline Lot. The in-resort shuttle to the base areas runs about every 10 to 15 minutes. Those shuttle lots are a winter backup, not a summer service.
Is a private ride worth it instead of parking?
It is worth it when a full lot, a flight, or a pile of ski bags would put your start time at risk. Avi Limo quotes the Keystone transfer from your pickup, drop-off, passengers, and gear. Call 303-455-4455 or use the contact form.

Book the drop-off, or park before the lot fills
Self-parking at the Keystone Ski River Run Gondola parking lot works when you can arrive early and travel light. It is the wrong tool when the day depends on a guaranteed door time. Share the pickup, the River Run or lodging address, and the bag count so Avi Limo can quote the ride.
